By Cleophus J. LaRue

"Brothers and sisters in the faith, sometimes we do our best and work under life's most austere and trying circumstances. We do our best work when life is hard and the load is heavy, our best work when life finds us in a situation where we would prefer not to be and hope not to stay.
Like Paul, when life finds you there, do not bemoan your plight, but lift up your head and your heart and go forward with the work God has assigned you to do"

You have the authority

Psalm 91:13 -- You will tread upon the lion and cobra, the young lion and the serpent you will trample down.

Luke 10:19 -- Look! I have given you the authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to destroy all the enemy's power, and nothing will ever hurt you.

I spent the last 24 hours swimming in self pity and anger. A conversation I had with a friend triggered these emotions but I took it too far. I allowed the situation to get bigger than it really was and in return spent the last 24 hours feeling defeated, depressed, and angry.

After spending some time in prayer, I read Luke 10:19 and allowed the word to minister to my spirit. God had already given me the authority to destroy the enemy’s power and here I was crying about something I had power over. I remembered a sermon a pastor once preached and it was titled “power over dumb stuff”. The title of his message and Luke 10:19 were all telling me the same thing. Not only do we have power over dumb stuff but we have power over the enemy’s tricks and nothing can ever hurt us.

The bible makes it very clear that we have been given the authority to destroy all the enemy’s power and that nothing will ever hurt us. If that is the case then why are some of us defeated? Why are we depressed, sad, powerless, and most importantly why have we allowed the enemy to have victory over us and anything we hold dear to our hearts?

Snakes and scorpions represent evil and the text in Luke shows us the promise God has given us concerning evil. It is the promise to destroy all evil and giving us the confidence to know that NOTHING will hurt us.

Don’t let the enemy fool you into thinking you have lost the battle of life. Romans 8:28 says and we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

Victory in Jesus Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I thank you that we have received from Jesus Christ the victory over all diseases, afflictions, infirmities, hindrances, persecutions, torments and lies that the enemy is trying to send our way now or in the future. We claim victory and deliverance from all demonic spirits, curses, hexes, vexes, enchantments, witchcraft prayers, psychic prayers, or spells. We thank you that Jesus Christ is victorious through the power of His might against all the wiles of the devil; against principalities and powers and rulers of darkness of this world and against spiritual wickedness in high places. (Eph. 6:10-12) We claim our victory in faith through our salvation and His shed Blood of all these things now. We declare according to Job 22:27-18 that we are victorious through the shed Blood of Jesus Christ, in His Holy Name we pray. Amen

Romans 16:20 -- And the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.

Who am i to judge?

Jesus with the woman caught in adultery (John 8:1-11)

God always has a way of teaching us things we thought we already knew. I’ve always known that it’s not good to judge and I’ll be the first to admit that I have given an opinion of somebody or something and sometimes without careful thought or consideration. No matter how I look it, I was judging and it was wrong.

In times when I felt “saved, sanctified, and filled with the Holy Ghost”, I looked at those that were not like me and I judged them.

  • I went to church on Sunday and you didn't so that means i'm in good standing with God and you are not.
  • You didn't do it the way I would do it then i guess that makes it wrong.
  • You don't worship like everyone else so maybe you are not doing it right.
  • You don't start off the year by fasting for 21 days so that means you are going to have a bad year.
  • Your first fruits offering is too little and now your finances will be cursed (LOL)
  • Your shout is not loud enough and how do you expect God to hear you
  • You don't think and act like the proverbs 31 woman so that means you are not ready for marriage
  • You don’t have good communication skills and that means you are going to be lousy husband
  • Your children are too loud, what's wrong with your parenting skills
  • You spend too much time in the mall, i guess that's where your heart is

It is easy for us to judge because something in us is able to identify with that very thing we are judging.

Romans 2:1 -- Therefore you have no excuse, O man, every one of you who judges. For in passing judgment on another you condemn yourself, because you, the judge, practice the very same things.

As I read this scripture, the reality of it kicked it. For you that judge do the same things and if I hadn’t done the same things, I’m sure I had thought about it. No one is perfect, and Romans 3:23 makes it very clear for us, “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God”.

So who are we to decide who is right and wrong, give an informed opinion about something, or condemn someone ESPECIALLY knowing that at one point we have done it, thought about it, and have fallen short of the Glory of God.

What separates God from men is that God does not judge the outward appearance but he always searches the heart because that is where the truth is. The heart holds our desires, thoughts, and it also hides our deepest secrets. The bible says that God will judge men’s secrets through Jesus Christ.

When all is said and done, "Stop judging, so that you won't be judged, because the way that you judge others will be the way that you will be judged, and you will be evaluated by the standard with which you evaluate others.” Matthew 7:1-2 (ISV)

I am not perfect and God is always working on me. But with the leading and guiding of the Holy Spirit, I pray that I am conscious when I speak and act so that I am not found judging.

Something to think about:

He that is without sin - He that is not guilty: his own conscience being the judge - of the same sin, or of some nearly resembling it; let him - as a witness, cast the first stone at her. (John 8:7 Wesley's Notes on the Bible)

Are you dressed?

Ephesians 6:13-18 (NKJV)
Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints

The armor of God is meant to be put on at all times and nothing is to be left out. When you get up and get dressed in the morning you do not leave your house half dressed or without any shoes. Most public places will not allow you entrance without a shirt or a pair of shoes. In the same way, we should look at our spiritual armor as an important part of our getting dressed in the morning.

Our spiritual armor consists of:

Belt of truth around our waist
Breastplate of righteousness in place
Our fit fitted with readiness that from the gospel of peace
Shield of faith
Helmet of salvation
Sword or the spirit which also means the word of God.

It is impossible to have one without the other and say you are ready for battle. A soldier does not go to the battlefield to fight the enemy without their sword and expect to win the battle. If they go without their shield or helmet then they put themselves in danger and risk getting hurt or death.

The belt around our waist is supposed to hold everything in place. This is not just a belt but it is the belt of truth. When you leave the house, TRUTH should be in your actions and words.
Truth should be with us at all times because of what it represents. Truth also symbolizes everything God expects from us.
** Snce the author of lies is the devil it is crucial for us to wear the belt of truth.**

The Breastplate of righteousness has to be worn properly. Improper use of the breastplate could result to injuries.

Our head needs to be protected with the helmet of salvation. In the real world, the enemy does not physically attack our heads but he does it spiritually. The enemy attacks our minds with impure thoughts, fear, and triggers our ability to understand and retain the word of God. His plan is simple, attack the body part that controls the center of thought and you have a person that does not believe, have faith, or lacks understanding. Our helmet of salvation protects our mind -- Romans 12:2 -- And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

We need to carry our shield of faith everywhere we go. Faith is necessary when it comes to our relationship with God and our spiritual walk. Without faith it is impossible to please God.
Hebrews 11:2 -- Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

John 1:1 -- In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

The word has been with us from the beginning and it’s important to understand that everything that has happened started with a word. It’s important that we are reading our word, speaking the word, and putting the word into practice. The word is food for our spirits and it’s needed for growth.

Luke 4:4 -- And Jesus answered him, saying, it is written, that man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God

As we get dressed this morning, lets make sure we put on the FULL armor of God and leave nothing out

God is able

The Hebrew boys and the fiery furnish teach us a couple of important lessons.

Daniel 3:19-20 - - Then Nebuchadnezzar was filled with fury, and the expression of his face was changed against Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. He ordered the furnace heated seven times more than it was usually heated. And he ordered some of the mighty men of his army to tie Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, and to throw them into the burning fiery furnace.

Life always throws obstacles and difficulties that seem hard to handle and impossible to get over. As situations happen, you ask yourself when and if it will ever end, how you got into the mess, why you got into the mess, and if this is the end of your life. When things happen, life seems hard, and your enemies turn up the heat.. DO NOT give up on your God, compromise your beliefs, value, and most importantly HAVE FAITH that YOUR GOD will see you to the end of the problem and on top of it

When life doesn't make any sense, DO no cry, be afraid, get confused, give in to the devil, or look for help in the wrong places. YOU have to respond the same way the Hebrew boys did to the King

Daniel 3:16-18 -- Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego answered and said to the king, "O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter. If this be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of your hand, O king. But if not, be it known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the golden image that you have set up."

Remember your tongue has the power of life and death, SO You need to speak with your mouth, have faith, and trust and know that God is able to deliver you from anything and out of the hands of those that try to oppress you. In the end, God will bring you out the way no one expects... UNHARMED and UNBOUND

God said he will never leave you nor forsake, so remember that as you go through, HE IS RIGHT THERE WITH YOU

Daniel 3:25 - - He answered and said, "But I see four men unbound, walking in the midst of the fire, and they are not hurt; and the appearance of the fourth is like a son of the gods."

ALWAYS remember that you will come out, and while it looks like you are going to come out of the mess hurt, oppressed, bitter... GOD will not let that happen. YOu will come out the way God wants you to come out... NOT the way you want to. THe reason some of us come out bitter and angry is because of we have not e mbraced the lesson God wanted to teach or the things God wanted to show us while we were going through.

Daniel 3:27 -- And the satraps, the prefects, the governors, and the king’s counselors gathered together and saw that the fire had not had any power over the bodies of those men. The hair of their heads was not singed, their cloaks were not harmed, and no smell of fire had come upon them.

OUR GOD IS ABLEand i believe Daniel said it best when he said "He reveals deep and hidden things; he knows what is in the darkness, and the light dwells with him." Daniel 2:22

Life

Do you ever stop to look at your life and you find yourself asking these familiar question, when did i get old, what is God thinking about my life, and where did the time go? After work today, I sat in my room and had one of those moments that forced me to ask these questions. I thought to myself, just the other day i was graduating from High school, then undergrad, and now at 25 years of age GOING ON 26 -- and one more year of graduate school left, i'm wondering where the time went, i'm starting to feel old, and when all is said and done I just want the Will of God accomplished in my life (if only i knew what God thought about that)

Does it ever feel like there is so much to do and you either have no time or you are running out of time?

Do you think about your age and everything you would like to do but then your age becomes a problem. You are either too young and you think no one will listen OR you think you are too old, too much time has gone by, and no one will listen. YOUNG or OLD... you don't think your voice will be heard. What i'm learning concerning these some of theses difficult questions is simple:

----------------------------------------------
On what i'm thinking and how i do it:
Isaiah 55:8 -- My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord. “And my ways are far beyond anything you20could imagine.

Isaiah 55:9 -- For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.

The best thing to do in any situation is to give it to God and let him take care of it. What we think and how we act will never compare to what our heavenly father can do. God is omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent... meaning HE is all powerful, all knowing, and present everywhere at the same time. Whatever the thought or action you wish to take, just give it to God and let him have the final say.

--------------------------------------------
On Age:
1 Timothy 4:12 -- Don’t let anyone think less of you because you are young. Be an example to all believers in what you say, in the way you live, in your love, your faith, and your purity.

I know you are probably thinking how the scripture relates to you but remember being young has nothing to do with age but maybe what this scripture is saying is..... Don't let anyone think less of you because you have the appearance, freshness, vigor, and youthful qualities. The youthful qualities you have are what make you different from anyone else.

In your youthful qualities you will find your gifts, talents, vocation, next business idea, and purpose in life. Embrace your inner youth, don't be afraid to let the world see your inner youth, and you might be surprised to see what door s get unlocked in your life. Don't bury your dreams and goals because you think you are too old or too young.. JUST DO IT

--------------------------------------------
On running out of time:
Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 -- For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven. A time to be born and a time to die. A time to plant and a time to harvest. A time to kill and a time to heal. A time to tear down and a time to build up. A time to cry and a time to laugh. A time to grieve and a time to dance. A time to scatter stones and a time to gather stones. A time to embrace and a time to turn away. A time to search and a time to quit searching. A time to keep and a time to throw away. A time to tear and a time to mend. A time to be quiet and a time to speak. A time to love and a time to hate. A time for war and a time for peace.

After reading this text, even though it's hard for me to admit this, I am reminded that there is no such thing as i'm running out of time. When God is ordering your steps and working everything out according to his plan we should always remember that for everything there is a season and a time for every activity under heaven.

Our prayer concerning time should be that God give us PATIENCE.- Patience to endure hardships while experiencing uncomfortable seasons- Patience to wait on seasons that don't seem to want to end- Patience to have the willingness or ability to tolerate delay

** ** Most importantly, patience to wait on God's good and perfect will ** **

Remember to cast ALL your cares and anxious on him because he cares for you (1 peter 5:7

God knows

I've read the story of Moses a million times and I watch the movie "The Prince of Egypt" at least four times a year. Today i reread the story and once again, i was amazed at how much God is always paying attention to us

Exodus 2:23-25 -- During those many days the king of Egypt died, and the people of Israel groaned because of their slavery and cried out for help. Their cry for rescue from slavery came up to God. And God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob. God saw the people of Israel—and God knew

We have all experienced some form of slavery in our lives. Whether it was a condition of being subject or addicted to a specified influence, being under the control of another person, working under harsh conditions for little or no pay, or not being FREE.

Bottom line is, we can call it bondage, or captivity but it is still slavery.

2008 was a harsh year for a lot of people- Jobs were lost or changed- Pay cuts were taken- Houses were lost due to foreclosure or not having enough income t o pay- Relationships failed or were lost- Some of us lost loved ones due to death- Some changes left others uncomfortable- Debt grabbed most of us by the neck and we worked hard to pay off bills that didn't endMost of this resulted in what some would call their slavery experience.

As i read Exodus 2:23-25 I praised God and realized that even in the midst of the 2008 drama and problems, FOR EVERY TIME we cried out to God, he heard us and remembered everything he had spoke concerning our lives and future. When God heard the Israelites crying for help, he sent them Moses to deliver them to a land flowing with Milk and Honey

Exodus 3:7-10 -- Then the LORD said,"I have surely seen the affliction of my people who are in Egypt and have heard their cry because of their taskmasters. I know their sufferings, and I have come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land to a good and broad land, a land flowing with milk and honey, to the place of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites. And now, behold, the cry of the people of Israel has come to me, and I have also seen the oppression with which the Egyptians oppress them. Come, I will send you to Pharaoh that you may bring my people, the children of Israel, out of Egypt."

In 2008, we cried out of help

THE GOOD NEWS... WE made it to 2009 and this is the year we are going to enter the land flowing with Milk and Honey!Don't get caught up in what some are calling a recession that you miss out on YOUR DELIVERER.... God sent the Israelites Moses.....

WHO or WHAT is God sending you in 2009 to deliver you from slavery because he has already heard you cry, he has remembered the promise he made, and you can start rejoicing because help is on the way and what has had you bound, what has oppressed you, or stole from you NO LONGER has the power to make you cry or to rule over your life.

GOD is in control and you are FREE!!
